Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal uses pulses of energy directed at hair follicles to reduce hair growth in selected areas over a series of treatments.

Laser hair removal

Laser hair removal targets pigment in hair follicles with pulses of energy. The energy converts to heat, disrupting the follicle’s blood supply and reducing future growth in the treated area. Because only a portion of follicles are in their active growth phase at any time, treatments are repeated at regular intervals. A series is needed to reduce hair in the selected area, and touch-up treatments may be needed.

Common treatment areas include the upper lip and chin, underarms, legs, bikini area, chest, and back. An evaluation considers the area, hair characteristics, skin tone, and the number of sessions needed before a treatment course is planned.

GentleMax Pro Plus®

The GentleMax Pro Plus is the laser system used for hair removal. It is a dual-wavelength system that can be adjusted for a range of skin types, skin tones, and hair types. It delivers bursts of energy directly to the follicles, with reduction in hair growth occurring over the course of treatment.

At least six sessions are typically needed to permanently reduce hair at a targeted site. The exact course changes with the area being treated and the individual response. The treatment plan should include the expected interval between sessions, since the schedule is tied to hair growth cycles rather than simply to convenience.

What to expect after treatment

Avoid prolonged sun exposure while the skin is healing after the procedure. Redness and swelling can occur in the treated area. Follow the aftercare instructions provided for that area and keep the recommended timing for the next session. Discuss any concern about skin healing, sun exposure, or a planned change in treatment timing before the next visit.

Laser hair removal reduces hair growth; it does not treat every follicle at one time. Returning for the planned series gives the laser an opportunity to treat follicles as they enter an active growth phase. A consultation can clarify candidacy, selected areas, expected session count, possible touch-ups, and recovery considerations.

Laser hair removal is available in Chapel Hill, Cary, and Fuquay-Varina. A consultation can confirm current treatment availability at the location being considered.
