Neurotoxin Treatments in Raleigh and the Triangle
BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Daxxify® are injectable neurotoxins used to soften dynamic wrinkles, the lines that develop through repeated facial movement. Central Dermatology Center offers aesthetic consultations and treatment in Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Cary, Fuquay-Varina, Pittsboro, and Sanford. A consultation considers the area being treated, facial anatomy, and the result you want to pursue.
Patients treated with BOTOX® may be eligible to earn rewards through the Allē program.
Concerns Neurotoxins May Address
Targeted injections into muscles used during expression can be used for several concerns:
- Glabellar lines between the eyes and above the bridge of the nose
- Crow’s feet
- Forehead lines
- Platysmal bands in the neck
- Lower-face muscle activity associated with chin dimpling, downturned corners of the mouth, or jawline contour
- Migraines
- Masseter muscle concerns, including TMJ-related symptoms
Neurotoxins may also be used with dermal fillers. A filler can address selected areas of volume loss or folds, while a neurotoxin can reduce the movement that contributes to a dynamic line. Treating both concerns can be part of one plan when appropriate.
How These Products Work
All four products use botulinum toxin type A. At the neuromuscular junction, the treatment inhibits acetylcholine in the specific injected muscle. That reduction in muscle movement can soften the crease created by repeated expressions while leaving untreated muscles unaffected.
BOTOX Cosmetic, Dysport, Xeomin, and Daxxify share the active ingredient but differ in the proteins that deliver it. BOTOX Cosmetic has a long-standing safety and efficacy profile. Dysport is designed for greater spread in muscle tissue and may be considered for larger treatment areas. The selected product and injection pattern depend on the treatment area, anatomy, and goals rather than a one-product approach for every concern.
What Happens During Treatment
The injector cleanses the treatment area and may mark the planned injection sites for accuracy. Injections take only a few moments. People often describe the sensation as a pinprick or insect bite. The appointment is generally brief, and BOTOX Cosmetic, Dysport, and Xeomin patients can generally return to normal activities immediately afterward with few restrictions.
Results, Timing, and Follow-Up
A difference may begin to appear in 2 to 7 days. Allow up to 2 weeks to assess the full result. Bruising is possible, although it is generally temporary. Results typically last 3 to 4 months. With regularly scheduled treatment, improvement in wrinkles visible at rest may become more prolonged over time. Results and duration can vary by treatment area and the individual response to the product.
The treatment plan should account for the concern being addressed, the product used, and the interval that makes sense for you. If fillers are also being considered, the consultation can address how the treatments fit together and whether they should be performed during the same visit.
